'Squid Game' Season 2 to be released in December
Excited to watch the second season of Squid Game?
Business Insider reported that Lee Jung-jae, who plays the role of Seong Gi-hun in the Korean series, briefly talked about the upcoming Squid Game installment during a promotional event for Star Wars series The Acolyte. "It will be released in December," he told the media outlet through an interpreter.
The exact release date of its second season is yet to be announced.
Netflix gave a first look at the next installment in February via an 18-second teaser, where Seong Gi-hun is seen talking to someone on the phone. "You’ll regret your decision," the caller tells him. To which, the protagonist says, "I will find you. No matter what it takes."
Joining Lee in Squid Game 2 are the original cast from Season 1 including Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo.
New players completing the cast are Korean actors Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ae-sim, and former member of the K-pop group BigBang, Choi Seung-hyun (also known as T.O.P).
Squid Game follows the story of 456 individuals, who are buried in financial debt, playing a series of thrilling, deadly games. Only one winner would bring home the jackpot prize of 45.6 billion Korean won (P2 billion).
The first season premiered in October 2021 and has become one of Netflix’s hit series, garnering nods and historic wins in prestigious awards shows like winning six Emmys in 2022.
