Dreamworks is developing a comedy-adventure animated film about Philippine mythology.

Entertainment outlet Variety reported that the upcoming animated film, dubbed Forgotten Island, is set for a Universal Pictures release on Sept. 25, 2026.

The film is set to be helmed by Trolls Holiday director Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. Plot details are still under wraps, but it is described as a “broad party comedy adventure that transports the film’s protagonists to a long forgotten, magical island rooted in Philippine mythology.”

Mark Swift, known for the films Puss in Boots and The Croods: New Age, is set to produce the film.

Forgotten Island will be Mercado’s first full directing credit. He's a Filipino American filmmaker known for working on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, The Lego Ninjago Movie, Penguins of Madagascar, and more.

DreamWorks Animation is the production company behind hit animated series like The Wild Robot, which earned three Academy Award nominations, Kung Fu Panda 2, Shark Tale, the Shrek film franchise, and the upcoming live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon set for June 2025 release.
