Time to be powerful
Javicia Leslie transforms into ‘Batwoman’ in new trailer
There’s a new Batwoman in Gotham City.
The CW just dropped a brief teaser for season two of Batwoman last Thursday, Nov. 19, giving fans a first glimpse at Javicia Leslie as the female “caped crusader.”
Leslie took over the mantle of Batwoman, following the departure of Ruby Rose at the end of the show’s first season. She portrays a brand new character in the show named Ryan Wilder, who WB has described as “likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed.”
In the 10-second teaser, we see Leslie’s Wilder running into a bathroom and opening a backpack. After a few quick shots of the new suit, Wilder becomes the female caped crusader, mask and all.
“Time to be powerful,” she says.
The newly-dropped trailer offers the first on-screen look of Leslie as Batwoman, nearly four months after the CW announced the casting replacement for Ruby Rose, who portrayed Kate Kane in the CW comic series.
Before her stint as Batwoman, Leslie previously appeared on God Friended Me and The Family Business as well as the feature film Always a Bridesmaid. Leslie is the first black actress who will be portraying the iconic role in a live-action television or film production.
Ruby Rose, previously known for her role in Orange Is New Black, previously revealed that there were multiple reasons for her surprising departure from the series, including her need to undergo emergency back surgery. In an Instagram post, she praised the casting choice of Leslie as the next Batwoman.

With a new actress and new character for the second season, it looks like the show will be getting a brand new start. Batwoman returns to The CW for season two on January 17, 2021.
