An orchestral concert celebrating the music of legendary film composer John Williams is coming to Manila!

"Film Music Legends: The Music of John Williams: 95th Birthday Tribute" will take place on Jan. 30 and 31, 2027, at the Proscenium Theater in Rockwell Center, Makati.

One of three shows in Film Concerts Philippines' 2027 Film Music Legends series, the concert features the Filharmonika Orchestra conducted by Maestro Gerard Salonga. They will performing music from films including Harry Potter, Saving Private Ryan, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Superman, Star Wars, Amistad, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Fiddler on the Roof.

Salonga noted that while the music was written for film, the pieces stand on their own as compelling concert works.

"I’m convinced that many of these works will become part of the ‘classical’ symphonic repertoire, and in fact, over the course of music history, many pieces originally intended for a different purpose, such as opera overtures by Rossini and incidental music composed as scoring for plays by the likes of Beethoven and Mendelssohn, and even Korngold’s film music, have become part of the symphonic concert repertoire," he said.

The two other concerts in the 2027 lineup continue in May with Italian Film Music Legends, celebrating iconic composers Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, and Nicola Piovani—the masterminds behind legendary scores such as Cinema Paradiso, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and The Godfather.

It concludes in September with a grand program showcasing heroic and villainous scores throughout film history, spanning horror, thrillers, Westerns, and superhero blockbusters.
