Here's why Kevin Jonas doesn't sing much in Jonas Brothers songs
Kevin Jonas recently revealed why he mostly just sings harmony in Jonas Brothers songs—and the reason is completely relatable.
While guesting on the Zach Sang Show Clips podcast, the eldest of the trio, admitted that he didn't feel he was on par with his brothers Joe, 36, and Nick, 33, in the singing department.
"I just felt like I didn't have it in me," the 38-year-old said. "You're singing next to Joe and Nick. It's a little difficult. You've heard them sing."
In 2015, during the Jonas Brothers' hiatus, Joe put up his funk-pop band DNCE. Aside from the seven albums the Jonas Brothers has released, Joe has two solo albums under his belt, with the latest one, Music for People Who Believe in Love, earning a Top 10 spot in Billboard's Album Sales Chart in 2025.
During this time, Nick explored the R&B / pop scene. In 2014, he released a self-titled solo album. Two years later, he released another one, Last Year was Complicated, and Spaceman in 2021. He has also dabbled in theater, performing in several musicals, including Les Misérables and Annie Get Your Gun, as well as films, appearing in Jumanji and, more recently, Love Again.
Kevin, on the other hand, spent his time away from the Jonas Brothers by venturing into business and starring with his wife Danielle in the reality series Married to Jonas, which was cancelled after two seasons. The couple shares two daughters.
Jonas Brothers got back together in 2019.
"You grow up watching people just crush it every single night... I know how much it takes to be present vocally constantly. Also, I don't believe I have the chops to do it," Kevin said during the podcast.
The Jonas Brothers are set to wrap up their 20th anniversary celebration tour, Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown, with the tour's last concert in late December in Brooklyn, New York.
It was at the beginning of this tour, in August, when Kevin surprised everyone with the live debut of his first solo track Changing at Fenway Park in Boston. Videos of his performance show him saying, "I'm super nervous. So bear with me," before singing solo to many cheers.
He described how he got the courage to do it.
"The minute we walked under the spotlights, and they were shut off, it's a second where I could regroup myself. I ran [backstage]; my mouth was so dry. [Took] just a shot of something real fast. And I ran back [onstage] real fast, and I was like, 'Okay, here we go'," he recalled.
"I'd never done it at that scale," he admitted. "I just felt like I had to do it to get it over with."
After his solo, Joe and Nick ran out to give their brother a congratulatory hug.
Reactions from fans, including his wife, were ecstatic.
Danielle posted a series of photos and videos of Kevin's performance on Instagram, writing, "Last night was a moment I will never forget. Hearing you sing your own song and watching your voice fill the stadium brought me to tears. I am beyond proud of you [Kevin] and so grateful that everyone else finally got to hear the voice I’ve loved for so long."
"He was incredible. We need more Kevin Jonas, please!" commented Priyanka Chopra, Nick's wife.
Kevin officially released Changing in November. It's now available on all major streaming platforms.
