This podcast is a gift that keeps on giving—literally

Gift Boiser has always been a gift to the internet, especially to her over half a million followers on TikTok. She recently took on the podcast realm and easily flew to the top of the charts, being named Spotify Philippines’ Top New Podcast (Solo) of 2023.

The 16-year-old admits, however, that a podcast wasn’t part of her plans until an Instagram follower suggested it. “I used to record using a very small microphone, and then I’d sit on the floor just talking,” Gift recalls to Young STAR. “That happened in the summer of 2023, and I’m very happy with how far the podcast has come.”

Gift juggles content creation with being a student, and while this can be challenging, she emphasizes that the “results in the end are worth it.” She sees the Gift Podcast as her friend with whom she is “making chika” whenever she shoots an episode. “It’s a way I can communicate my feelings and thoughts about certain topics. I’m happy that the podcast holds special meaning for others, as it is for me,” she adds.

Very soon after its launch, the Gift Podcast immediately became known for its authenticity and has connected deeply with its listeners, particularly among Gen Z. As much as topping charts and receiving awards make her happy, Gift has patted herself on the back for how much the podcast has helped her young listeners navigate their way in life.

“It truly makes me happy reading messages from my listeners saying they can relate to the topics and stories I share. It’s fascinating to know that there are other people around the world going through similar experiences as me,” she says. “It’s always been my mission, through my podcast, to give relatable content to my fans, but moreover, I want my listeners to feel like I’m their friend who they can casually chat with about anything–on school, friendship, our crushes, and more. Knowing that my podcast has helped a large number of different people makes me feel really fulfilled.”

One of the topics she enjoys discussing is self-improvement: “As a young person myself, I know that I need a lot of it, too, so I always tell my listeners, ‘Let’s grow and improve together.’” But it is the Situationship episode that takes the cake as her favorite. Talking about love always turns the recording session to chikahan.

Just before its first anniversary, the Gift Podcast was awarded by Spotify’s Wrapped campaign alongside other podcast powerhouses skypodcast and Queerfully Yours. “I never imagined I’d achieve such a big award and I feel so delighted that I am making an impact on the lives of many people,” Gift says. “It never crossed my mind that I would become someone who people look up to.”
