LIST: Academy Awards outs shortlist in 10 categories
The films shortlisted in 10 award categories for the 97th Academy Awards have been announced.
On Dec. 18 (Philippine time, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the shortlists in 10 categories for the upcoming Oscars. The list includes categories Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound and Visual Effects.
Leading the list is Netflix’s Emilia Pérez with six mentions, followed by Universal Pictures’ Wicked which earned four.
Respective categories had to be narrowed down from more or less a hundred eligible entries to only 15 or 20. Afterward, only five entries will be selected for the official list of nominees.
The voting will begin on Jan. 8, 2025, to Jan. 12, 2025. The official list of nominees will be announced on Jan. 17, 2025.

The 97th Oscars, to be hosted by Conan O'Brien, will be held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. It will be televised live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu.
