Matthew Lillard coming back as Stu Macher in 'Scream 7'
Here's another thing to look forward to in Scream 7!
Deadline reported on Friday, Jan. 31 that Matthew Lillard is coming back to the franchise for its latest installment, where he is set to reprise his role as Stuart "Stu" Macher in the first Scream film in 1996.
It's quite interesting how it would play out in the upcoming movie as Lillard's character died by electrocution after he was revealed as one of the killers in the first Scream.
Directed by Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is slated for release in theaters in February 2026.
Other returning cast members are Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers.
The project has been revamped following the departure of director Christopher Landon in 2023.
In the same year, Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, was fired from the sequel following her social media remarks that brought attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Shortly after Barrera was cut from the production, Jenna Ortega also dropped out of the seventh film due to her shooting schedule for Season 2 of Netflix's Wednesday.
Scream launched in 1996, with the late Wes Craven directing three sequels. In 2022, the fifth film re-invented the franchise under the direction of directing team Radio Silence.
