Courteney Cox to reprise role as Gale Weathers in 'Scream 7'
Courteney Cox is returning as sharp-witted reporter Gale Weathers in Scream 7.
According to Variety, Cox will reprise her role in the seventh installment of the beloved horror franchise alongside Neve Campbell, who will play Sidney Prescott, and Mason Gooding, who will play Chad Meeks-Martin
Cox's character Gale Weathers first appeared in Scream (1996), and in its five sequels: Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), Scream 4 (2011), Scream (2022), and Scream 6 (2023). This makes her the only cast member who has appeared in every film in the series.
The Friends star portrays an ambitious, strong-willed journalist who starts as an enemy but ends up working with Sidney Prescott (Campbell) and Dewey Riley (Arquette)—with whom she falls in love and marries—to uncover the truth behind the Ghostface murders.
Scream 7, directed by Kevin Williamson, will be released in theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.
The project has been revamped following the departure of director Christopher Landon in 2023.
In the same year, Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter, was fired from the sequel following her social media remarks that brought attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Shortly after Barrera was cut from the production, Jenna Ortega also dropped out of the seventh film due to her shooting schedule for Season 2 of Netflix's Wednesday.
Scream launched in 1996, with the late Wes Craven directing three sequels. In 2022, the fifth film re-invented the franchise under the direction of directing team Radio Silence, with Campbell, Cox, and Arquette returning alongside a crew of new actors.
The makers followed it up with Scream 6, which in 2023 became the franchise's top-grossing movie.
