‘Halo’ TV series reveals trailer and release date

Published Jan 31, 2022 5:05 pm

The first official full trailer and premiere date for Halo, the upcoming television series based on the military science fiction first-person shooter video game first released in 2001, has been released.

The Halo TV series will premiere on March 24th on Paramount Plus, a new streaming service originally launched as CBS All Access.

After a brief teaser last December, the two-minute trailer released Sunday (Jan. 30) gives fans a better idea of what to expect from the streaming series adaptation.

Halo will star Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) as the armored super-solider Master Chief, while Jen Taylor will reprise her role from the game as the AI companion, Cortana.

The trailer also shows glimpses of Natascha McElhon (The Truman Show, Solaris) as Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of both Cortana and the Spartan super-soldier program, along with newcomer Yerin Ha as Quan Ah, a girl Master Chief saves; and Irish actor Charlie Murphy (Peaky Blinders) as Makee, a human who has been raised by the Covenant.

Earlier this week, Halo video game developer 343 Industries stated that the Paramount Plus show will take place in its own continuity, which is being referred to as the “Silver Timeline.”

This means newcomers to the Halo franchise don't necessarily have to know the canon from the games. While the series will alter certain elements, the series will still draw inspiration from many of the games for longtime fans. Developer 343 Industries teased the possibility that the show could add story beats from Halo's expanded universe of comics and novels.

The first Halo game was released in 2001 for the original Xbox. Over the last 21 years, the series has seen several installments, including last year's Halo Infinite

Aside from a dozen games, the franchise has also spawned dozens of books, graphic novels, animated content, action figures, and more over the past two decades.

The Halo TV Series will premiere on March 24, exclusively on Paramount Plus.

Paramount Plus is currently only available in select markets in the US, Canada, and Latin America. Other regions like the Philippines may require the use of a VPN service to access the streaming service.
