WATCH: Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio join forces in 'Karate Kid: Legends'
The world of Karate Kid is about to experience a game-changing moment as Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio team up in the highly anticipated Karate Kid: Legends.
In the 2-minute trailer, Kung Fu teacher Mr. Han (Chan) and original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) train a Karate prodigy named Li Fong (Ben Wang).
Li, who hailed from Beijing and moved to New York City with his mother after a family tragedy, entered a karate competition. However, he noticed his karate skills were not enough to win the competition or defend himself from bullies.
Mr. Han asked Daniel to help him train Li to become like Sensei Miyagi, the legendary karate master from The Karate Kid movies. Miyagi, played by Pat Morita, is known for training Daniel in the first three films and Julie Pierce in the fourth.
Karate Kid: Legends was directed by English producer Jonathan Entwistle and was written by Rob Lieber.
Further details, such as the premiere date, have yet to be announced.
In the 2010 remake of the film, American rapper and actor Jaden Smith played Dre Parker, the equivalent of Daniel in the 1984 film. Like Daniel, Dre is a social misfit who finds unexpected allies in martial arts, like Mr. Han. He then uses what he has learned to protect himself from bullies and later proves his karate prowess in a competition.
In 2023, Macchio and Chan announced a new Karate Kid film, marking the 40th anniversary of the original movie's release.
