Bandai Namco finally released the gameplay trailer for FromSoftware's eagerly-awaited new action role-playing game Elden Ring.

Revealed during the Summer Game Fest's Kickoff live event early Friday, the trailer for the upcoming epic fantasy RPG from Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin also confirmed that the game is coming out on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Steam on January 21, 2022.

In the gameplay trailer, fans of FromSoftware’s critically-acclaimed games such as Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will quickly notice some of the familiar Souls-like elements in Elden Ring, including the signature melee combat, variety of weapons and magical abilities, as well as the fearsome creatures that players will encounter – and that includes a thunder-weilding dragon.

Take a look at the brand new trailer of Elden Ring below:

Here’s the official game synopsis of Elden Ring:

Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between. In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered. Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering.

A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will. And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.

First announced at E3 two years ago, the much-awaited open-world game will feature a sprawling landscape with natural weather and time-of-day progression. The game will also allow players to “traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players.”

Since Elden Ring's sprawling realm is inhabited by ferocious enemies, the Tarnished will also have a wide variety of weapons at his disposal and may opt to either charge into battles or use stealth to pick off enemies one-by-one.

“With ELDEN RING, we have applied all our dark fantasy and action-RPG expertise cultivated throughout the Dark Souls series, in order to create a bold, classical evolution of the genre,” Miyazaki said. “We've crafted a rich world with a staggering sense of scale, based off of legends written for the game by George R. R. Martin. ELDEN RING is a world full of mystery and peril, ready to be explored and discovered; a drama in which various characters flaunt their own mystique and ulterior motives. We sincerely hope you enjoy experiencing it for yourself.”
