Matthew Perry's last words before fatal ketamine shot revealed

Official court documents have shown Friends star Matthew Perry's last words before he died.

PEOPLE Magazine, citing the US Department of Justice, reported that the actor asked his live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa to administer ketamine on him before he died in October.

"Shoot me up with a big one," he said.

Iwamasa is one of five people arrested and charged in Perry's death due to drug offenses. He "pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death."

Per the DOJ, Iwamasa—who was "not medically trained" to administer such drug—"repeatedly" injected Perry with it. According to his plea agreement, he gave Perry some ketamine thrice.

In December, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office confirmed in a statement that Perry's death was determined "to be from the acute effects of ketamine."

"Contributory factors in his death include drowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects. The manner of death is accident," it said.

Ketamine is illegally used "as a recreational drug for its numbing and hallucinogenic effects." Doctors can also use the drug as an anesthetic, and researchers are exploring its use as a mental health treatment.

Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the hit TV sitcom Friends from 1994 to 2004, passed away at the age of 54. He was found unconscious in a swimming pool at his house in Los Angeles in October.

He had struggled for decades with addiction to drugs, including ketamine, which he said "eased his pain and helped him with depression."

In 2018, he suffered a burst colon related to drug usage and underwent multiple surgeries. However, reports said he had been clean for 19 months prior to his passing. (with reports from AFP)
