The gory horror franchise Final Destination is getting another reboot—and it will be helmed by a familiar name.

Marvel's Spider-Man director Jon Watts is set to bring back New Line's successful 2000s franchise with a reboot simply titled Final Destination 6. Watts will be producing with his wife and fellow filmmaker, Dianne McGunigle.

"Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning," Watts shared in a statement as per Variety. "So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting."

Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Scream 2022) and Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest) are currently working on the screenplay.

The reboot will be presented by HBO Max. Details of a release date have yet to be announced.

Despite over 20 years since the first film's release, Final Destination remains as New Line’s third-biggest horror franchise, following The Conjuring and the sequel renditions of Stephen King's It.

Meanwhile, Watts is no stranger to box office hits, as he's been the directorial mind behind the three Sony and Marvel Tom Holland-led films, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The latest entry in the franchise has been dubbed as the pandemic movie era's most successful film release and now serves as the sixth highest-grossing film of all time.
