Disney’s upcoming animated movie Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers promises to bring out more beloved characters from the ’90s vault of nostalgic goodness.
Thirty years after their show was cancelled, everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic chipmunks are back to solve more cases and save the day in the highly-anticipated animated movie based on Disney's beloved ’90s cartoon series.
Just like the previous trailer, the new clip showcases more cameos from Disney’s vast properties including Gumby, Cars, and Star Wars, to name a few.
Some beloved characters from Disney’s cartoon series also appeared in the latest trailer such as Beauty and the Beast’s Lumiere, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Sneezy, The Little Mermaid’s Flounder and the ‘live-action’ version of The Lion King’s Pumba. And oh, there’s a disheveled adult Peter Pan, too!
The Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers live-action film stars John Mulaney (Saturday Night Live) as Chip and Andy Samberg (Palm Springs, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Dale.
They will be joined by KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Will Arnett (Arrested Development, Bojack Horseman), Eric Bana (Dirty John), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2), Dennis Haysbert (24), Keegan-Michael Key (Schmigadoon!), Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons), Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave), Seth Rogen (Pam and Tommy), J.K. Simmons (Being the Ricardos) and Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live).
The film is helmed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live) and written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). The live-action adaptation is produced by Todd Lieberman (Wonder) and David Hoberman (Beauty and the Beast), with Alexander Young (Extinction) and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.
Here's the official synopsis of the upcoming film adaptation: In Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Chip and Dale are living amongst cartoons and humans in modern-day Los Angeles, but their lives are quite different now. It has been decades since their successful television series was canceled, and Chip has succumbed to a life of suburban domesticity as an insurance salesman. Dale, meanwhile, has had CGI surgery and works the nostalgia convention circuit, desperate to relive his glory days. When a former cast mate mysteriously disappears, Chip and Dale must repair their broken friendship and take on their Rescue Rangers detective personas once again to save their friend’s life.
The reboot, albeit, the “comeback,” sees the return of the cartoon series “that defined a generation and turned two unknown chipmunks into international superstars.” Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers premieres May 20, 2022, exclusively on Disney Plus.
Created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers had a total of three seasons, which aired from March 1989 to November 1990. Original voice casts include Macneille as Chip and Gadget Hackwrench, Corey Burton as Dale and Zipper, and Peter Cullen and Jim Cummings as Monterey Jack.
