Demi Lovato draws flak for performing 'Heart Attack' at cardiovascular disease event

Demi Lovato is being bashed for choosing to sing her hit song Heart Attack at an event for the American Heart Assocation.

She recently took part in the non-profit organization's Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection Concert, which is a charity event aimed at educating people on cardiovascular disease. Some social media users found her song choice inappropriate as it includes the lines: "So I'm putting my defenses up / 'Cause I don't wanna fall in love / If I ever did that, I think I'd have a heart attack."

"Well, that's a bit dark, don't you think?" a social media user tweeted.

"She did not think this one through," another one commented.

An X user also said she couldn't stop laughing over her song choice. "How many people did that song decision go through before she performed it live?"

Demi made it a point to explain her song choice before her performance, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"While my next song is about the intense feelings that come with falling in love as well as heartbreak, opening yourself up, taking risks and not being afraid to do it again, this song has many parallels for me, my journey and a reminder for all of us in the room just how strong the mind-heart-body connection truly is," she's quoted as saying.

The singer's representative has also reacted to the bashing in a conversation with the entertainment portal.

"She spoke on the mind-heart connection," they said. "It was a sensitive moment intended to champion the women in the room—the very reason why Demi was at the event."

The rep also emphasized that it "was actually a beautiful moment."
