Tekken: Bloodline, a new animated series based on the beloved fighting video game and arcade series of the same name, is coming to Netflix this 2022.

Netflix shared the news on Twitter by releasing both a teaser trailer and a poster focused on Jin Kazama on Sunday (March 20). The official YouTube channel also revealed the show's synopsis.

"'Power is everything.' Jin Kazama learned the family self-defense arts, Kazama-Style Traditional Martial Arts, from his mother at an early age," the official synopsis reads.

"Even so, he was powerless when a monstrous evil suddenly appeared, destroying everything dear to him, changing his life forever. Angry at himself for being unable to stop it, Jin vowed revenge and sought absolute power to exact it. His quest will lead to the ultimate battle on a global stage—The King of Iron Fist Tournament."

The anime trailer teases some familiar Tekken characters that will be part of the show, including Jin’s grandfather Heihachi Mishima, his father Kazuya Mishima, his mother Jun Kazama, Leroy Smith, King, Paul Phoenix, and Ogre, to name a few.

According to Netflix, Tekken Bloodline is the first animated series from the hit 3D fighting game launched by Bandai Namco Entertainment in 1994.

However, this isn't the first time that Tekken has explored other entertainment mediums.

The two-part OVA series Tekken: The Motion Picture was released in 1998, while the Japanese 3D martial arts film Tekken: Blood Vengeance arrived in 2011.

The fighting game also had a a live-action film in 2009 distributed by Warner Bros., which has spawned a 2014 prequel Tekken 2: Kazuya's Revenge.

As for the Tekken fighting games, the last mainline entry in the franchise was Tekken 7 in 2015. Tekken 7 was launched in arcades and came to home consoles including the PlayStation 4, Xbox and Microsoft Windows in 2017. No official announcements have been made for the next installment in the game series.

The upcoming Tekken animated series is just one of the many projects based on video games in development. It joins an ever-growing list of TV adaptations including The Last of Us, Tomb Raider anime, BioShock, Halo, and more.
