Heads up, zombie fans! The official teaser for Zack Snyder’s upcoming zombie heist film Army of the Dead just dropped.
Netflix released the 1:12 minute long teaser on Thursday (Feb. 25), giving fans a first glimpse of Drax The Destroyer’s Dave Bautista in action.
A few days before the teaser’s release, Snyder shared the movie’s official poster on Twitter and announced the film’s release date on May 21, 2021.
"Survivors take all. #ArmyOfTheDead on @Netflix May 21. Teaser this Thursday," the director tweeted Sunday (Feb. 21).
Army of the Dead follows a group of mercenaries who attempt a heist at a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak, with Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) leading the charge as Scott Ward.
Following a plague that’s been released from Nevada's secretive Area 51 military base, the US government has managed to contain the outbreak by building a wall around an overrun Sin City. But there's still all that cash in zombie-infested casinos, if only somebody is brave (or dumb) enough to try and go and get it.
The cast also features Matthias Schweighöfer, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Raul Castillo, Omari Hardwick and Tig Notaro, who’s replacing Chris D'Elia as the rebranded sarcastic helicopter-pilot, Marianne Peters.
Snyder has described the upcoming film as "a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the director first got the idea for his genre bending monster mash-up shortly after finishing his 2004 remake of George A. Romero's classic, Dawn of the Dead.
While the idea languished in development hell at Warner Bros. for several years, Netflix managed to pick it up. Aside from the film, the streamer has also ordered a four-hour animated prequel series as well as a live-action prequel film directed by and starring Schweighöfer.
