WATCH: Zendaya joins 'Shrek 5' as Shrek and Fiona's daughter
Zendaya is joining the voice cast of Shrek 5 as Felicia, the teenage daughter of Shrek and Fiona.
In the cast announcement video shared by Universal Pictures on Friday, Feb. 28, Shrek’s sidekick Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) asked: “Hey Magic Mirror, who’s the fairest of them all?”
The Magic Mirror—referencing the famous mystical object in Snow White—answered, “Why, Shrek! Of course.” It then showed various looks of Shrek, including a clip of him wearing a black, sultry fitted suit while dancing as well as a photo of him with sculpted abs.
Felicia, voiced by Zendaya, responded, “Ew, dad!” while Fiona (Cameron Diaz) said, “Oooh, Mommy likey!”
Shrek (Mike Myers) then asked, “Who is making this stuff?” before Pinocchio appeared and said a nose-growing lie, “Not me!”
Following the announcement, the film's official Instagram account shared a screenshot of Zendaya’s X’s post in 2017 that read, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood.”
“This aged well,” it wrote in the caption.
Shrek 5 is set to hit the theaters in December 2026.
The first Shrek movie came out in 2001 and received an Oscar for Best Animated Feature the next year. The successful franchise had three sequels including Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010). It also had Puss in Boots spinoffs in 2011 and 2022.
The franchise follows Shrek, an ogre who lives in a faraway swamp whose solitude suddenly gets disrupted as fairytale creatures invade his home. To regain his peace, he makes a deal with Lord Farquaad, who sets him on a path to rescue Princess Fiona. Shrek and Fiona form a bond as they travel back to Duloc, with the princess' dark secret coming to light.
Zendaya is known for her roles in Spider-Man, Dune, The Challengers, and Euphoria, among others.
