7 K-Pop acts named as nominees for 2022 MTV VMA's

K-pop stans, don’t waste a single second and cast your vote. Who knows? It could be your Ult holding up a moon person next.

MTV announced on Tuesday, July 26 the pool of multitalented nominees for this year’s 2022 Video Music Awards (VMA), and several of them are Korean idols.

The South Korean-based nominees are BLACKPINK, BTS, ITZY, LISA, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, and TWICE—each having made a name for themselves in the international music scene.

BTS and SEVENTEEN both earned the highest number of nominations, with BTS being nominated in 4 categories and SEVENTEEN with 3. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK, ITZY, and Stray Kids are selected in one category. 

Gunning for the Best K-Pop title is BTS’s Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment), ITZY’s LOCO, LISA’s LALISA, SEVENTEEN’s HOT, Stray Kids’s MANIAC, and TWICE’s The Feels.

BLACKPINK The Virtual | PUBG and BTS | Minecraft are two out of the six nominees for the Best Metaverse Performance.

My Universe, Coldplay’s collaboration with BTS, is nominated for Best Visual Effects. They are up against Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever, Kendrick Lamar’s The Heart Part 5, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow’s INDUSTRY BABY, Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa’s Sweetest Pie, and The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber’s STAY.

BTS’s Permission to Dance is opposite Doja Cat’s Woman, FKA Twig’s ft. The Weeknd’s Tears In The Club, Harry Styles’s As It Was, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow’s INDUSTRY BABY, and Normani ft. Cardi B’s Wild Side for Best Choreography. 

SEVENTEEN is nominated for Best New Artist, PUSH Performance of the Year with Rock With You, and Best K-POP for HOT.

Other international artists dominating the roster of nominees include Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Lizzo, Olivia Rodrigo, Elton John, Foo Fighters, among others.

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards is set to return on Sunday, August 28, at Prudential Center in New Jersey. Southeast Asian fans can tune in on September 2 at 7 p.m. Philippine time on the Paramount Network channel.  

MTV reminds fans that voting begins on Wednesday, July 27 until Friday, August 19. “Best New Artist” will remain open until the day of the show. Keep your eyes peeled for the release of the nominees for “Group of the Year” and “Song of Summer.”
