If you're thinking of skipping crowded restaurants and overpriced dinners this Valentine's Day, why not go on a romantic outdoor movie experience?

Despite Manila's limited open green spaces, MiraNila Heritage House in Quezon City is opening its doors to hold outdoor screenings of contemporary love films.

On Feb. 4, MiraNila will show Gitling by Jopy Arnaldo and Past Lives by Celine Song.

Gitling, which won best screenplay at Cinemalaya 2023, tells the story of a young Filipina translator and a middle-aged Japanese director as they navigate the challenges of language and understanding.

Past Lives, a best picture nominee at Oscars 2024, traces the lives of two childhood friends over 24 years as they reflect on love, connection, and their divergent paths.

Then on Feb. 12, the short films Living Things by Martika Ramirez Escobar and Tokwifi by Carla Pulido Ocampo will be up.

The MiraNila House, a heritage house declared by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. It's located at 26 Mariposa Street in Bagong Lipunan ng Crame in Quezon City.

Living Things, which won best short film in Cinemalaya 2014, tells the whimsical tale of a woman’s partner turning into a cardboard standee.

Tokwifi, which won the FAMAS, Gawad Urian, Cinemalaya, and QCinema awards, tells the story of a '50s mestiza star trapped in a television that fell from the sky and discovered by a young man from Bontok who does not know how to kiss.

The evening culminates with Prime Cruz's Isa Pa With Feelings, which revolves around an aspiring architect and her deaf neighbor, played by Maine Mendoza and Carlo Aquino, as they navigate their growing connection.

MiraNila will open at 4:45 p.m., with screenings starting at 6 p.m.

The venue will also have a mini art fair.

Tickets are priced at P700 for regular admission and P560 for students.

Viewers will be provided with garden mats for a cozy, comfortable outdoor screening experience. They're also encouraged to bring their own mini-pillows.

MiraNila is located at 26 Mariposa Street in Bagong Lipunan ng Crame in Cubao. Designed in Art Deco style, MiraNila took inspiration from the architectural designs in Florence, Italy. The house is four stories high and has a basement and a tower.
