Yeng Constantino says she’s not yet ready to have a baby: ‘Marami pa po akong obligasyon’
Yeng Constantino is not yet ready to have a baby, saying she's still prioritizing her responsibilities to her family.
During her appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Sept. 7, the 37-year-old singer-songwriter said she and her husband, Yan Asuncion, have discussed having children, but have other obligations to fulfill.
“Marami pa po akong obligasyon,” Constantino said when asked if she was ready to become a mother.
She explained that her mother, who passed away five years ago, asked her to look after her siblings and father. She said she sees the blessings she and Asuncion have received as part of her mother’s way of reminding her of that responsibility.
“I talked to my husband. I said, ‘Love, we are the ones God blesses. And there are so many blessings that have come,’” she said.
Constantino's older sister was also diagnosed with cancer this year, prompting the couple to help care for her.
“Kung meron man, kung will ni Lord, kung mangyari, okay. Pero right now, I'm just so happy na ako yung naka-assign sa family ko to help them,” she said.
Constantino clarified that she is not closing the door on motherhood, but is choosing to focus on her current responsibilities.
The singer also opened up about her mental health, admitting that she occasionally gets overwhelmed by sadness. She credits her husband and family with keeping her grounded and reminding her of everything she has to be thankful for.
“Siguro one of the lowest points is yung mga moments na nakakalimutan ko kung sino ako as an artist,” Constantino said. "May mga times boy na nadadala ako ng aking emosyon or whether it be my hormones or whatever that I get sucumbed with sadness na nakakalimutan ko that there are so many things in my life that I have to be grateful for."
"Yun po yung ayoko talaga na nangyayari sa akin which is madalas din talaga akong sumpungin ngayon because I struggle with it. I'm not ashamed about it pero it's something that I have to deal with my husband, with my cornerstone family. I'm just glad that there are people around me po na nagpapaalala sa akin," she added.
Constantino is a Filipino singer-songwriter known for hits including Hawak Kamay, Ikaw, and Chinito. She rose to fame after joining Pinoy Dream Academy in 2006 and has since built a two-decade career in the local music industry.
She married Asuncion, who is also a musician, in 2014, and the couple has been together for over a decade. She is also entering a new chapter in her career as one of the coaches of The Voice Kids Philippines.
