The famous brick toy maker has expanded its building sets inspired by real-life plants and flowers with two new sets designed specifically for adults, which they describe as: "Just as beautiful as the real thing. Far less frustratingly difficult to keep alive."
The LEGO Orchid features six white and pink blooms, five leaves, and two air roots set in a light blue plant pot. Composed of 608 pieces, the built set measures over 39 cm (15 inches) high, 30 cm (11.5 inches) wide and 24 cm (9.5 inches) deep. Creative builders can also craft their own flower arrangements for a personalized orchid display.
“The design of this set was inspired by a real orchid we had in the office throughout the design process, so we could see how the flower changed through the seasons,” says Michael Psiaki, lead designer at the LEGO Group. “A challenge with this set was creating a cylindrical pot from LEGO elements that would be fun to build but also beautiful to look at.”
For the LEGO Succulents set, LEGO tapped into the popularity of indoor succulent plants and cacti. With 771 pieces, the kit can build nine different plants inspired by a real life succulent species. Each plant comes in its own small black container. Put them together to create one large succulent arrangement, or display them individually or in small groups. When combined, the completed model measures over 13 cm (5 inches) high, 17 cm (6.5 inches) wide and 17 cm 6.5 inches deep.
“They say having succulents in a room helps you focus, and we hope this set gives the same feeling," said Anderson Ward Grubb, Senior Designer at The LEGO Group. "We wanted to create a set that offers a relaxing and mindful building experience to help adults switch off from their busy lives and to most importantly re-focus on something they enjoy.”
While real orchids and succulents may look beautiful on display and you would think they would be easy to care for, they're actually pretty hard to keep alive, making the LEGO sets perfect as gift items for aspiring plant-lovers without green thumbs.
