Liza Soberano and Shay Mitchell will be lending their voices to Alexandra Trese in the award-winning Filipino comic-based Netflix original anime series “Trese.”

As announced by the streaming giant on Twitter, Soberano (Alone Together) will voice the main character in Filipino, while Mitchell (YOU) will voice her in English.

Created by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo, the story follows the main character as she “finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld composed of malevolent supernatural beings” in Manila. In a press release, the setting was described as a place “where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans.”

Executive producer Jay Oliva, who also worked his magic on Wonder Woman and The Legend of Korra, expressed his happiness and excitement over the voice cast. “Shay’s Alexandra exceeded my expectations and she delivers a performance of strength, determination, and family duty that is at the very core of the character,” he said.

“If that wasn’t enough, imagine my delight when we confirmed Liza Soberano joining the Filipino voice cast! I am a big fan of hers and she fits the character so well. Having Liza play Alexandra Trese for the series makes this project even more special to me and my team!” continued Oliva.

Referring to Philippine folklore as “rich and fascinating,” Mitchell said she’s “thrilled to be a part of the team bringing this story to life.”

For her part, Soberano was “screaming on the inside” as she shared the news on social media.

The series, produced by Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson of BASE Entertainment, is slated for a 2021 release.
