‘Wicked’ Part 2 unveils new title ahead of its 2025 release
A little less than a year before its release, Wicked announced the official title for the film's second part.
Universal Pictures announced on Tuesday, Dec. 17 (Philippine Time) that the second half of the two-part film will be titled Wicked: For Good and will be coming to theaters on Nov. 21, 2025.
Helmed by Jon M. Chu, the movie adaptation of the famous stage musical tells the untold story of the witches of Oz. It centers on Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a young woman with unusual green skin who has yet to discover her true power, and Glinda (Ariana Grande), who is popular and gilded by privilege and ambition but has yet to discover her true heart.
After meeting as students at Shiz University, Elphaba and Glinda unexpectedly form a close bond, their friendship, however, gets tested after an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, even as their lives take very different paths.
The first part of the film has since grossed over $520 million (over P30 billion) worldwide just less than a month since its release.
It also earned nods from prestigious award-giving bodies, namely Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards with four and 11 nominations, respectively.
Aside from Grande and Erivo, the film also stars Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, and Ethan Slater.
