Hiccup and his best friend Toothless will be reuniting again, but this time, for a live-action movie.

According to a Variety report, How To Train Your Dragon trilogy writer and director Dean DeBlois revealed he is returning to work for the film’s live adaptation, gearing for its release on March 2025.

Based on Cressida Cowell's 2003 book, How to Train Your Dragon tells the adventure of two unlikely best friends, Hiccup and Toothless.

Hiccup is a misfit teen in the Viking village of Berk where people fight with dragons for a living. His dream to become a true Viking changed when he met Toothless, an injured dragon then. The two became best friends and managed to change the long feud between the Vikings and the dragons.

The award-winning animated trilogy generated more than $1.6 billion in sales worldwide. The first film in the trilogy was released in 2010, titled How To Train Your Dragon, immediately followed by part two released in 2014, and the latest film, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World was released in 2019.

Hiccup and Toothless’ adventure was so loved that it spawned three television series, namely DreamWorks Dragons, Rescue Riders, and The Nine Realms. It also had its short film, Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury.

Other than the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, DeBlois also worked on Disney’s Lilo & Stitch with Chris Sanders and co-headed and produced Mulan 1998 film.
