You can now add music to your Instagram profile—here’s how

Published Aug 27, 2024 9:29 pm

Instagram's newest feature is a throwback to the early 2000s social platform Myspace—you can now add music to your profile.

The social media site added this function in collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, who recently released a new album, Short n' Sweet. Currently, the Please Please Please singer has her song Taste as her profile song.

This feature isn't exactly new for modern social media platforms as Facebook began allowing users to have music displayed on their profile à la Myspace in 2021.

To add a song to your profile, open the Instagram app and tap on your profile icon at the bottom right of the screen. Tap on Edit profile and find the Music tab underneath Links and Banners. Select "Pick a song for your profile" and type in whatever song you like or fits your vibe.

Afterward, you'll be able to scroll through the whole song and pick a part of it to play. Tap done once you're finished with your selection.

Now, the song will appear below your bio on your profile. Unlike Myspace, Instagram won't automatically play the song whenever someone visits your page. Instead, you'll have to tap on the play button to hear the music.

Earlier in the year, Instagram let users add Notes, a temporary status, on posts and Reels.
