'Reply 1988' reunion special to premiere on Viu this December
Are you excited to see the Ssangmundong family once again? Your wish is finally coming true, as the 10th anniversary special of the hit K-drama, Reply 1988, will make its debut on Viu this December.
The Hong Kong-based streaming service announced that they will stream the episode on Saturday, Dec. 20.
"A decade of memories, laughter, and friendship. The cast of Reply 1988 reunites for their 10th anniversary, returning to where it all began. Watch them make countless new memories this December 20 on Viu," they wrote in the caption.
tvN Joy and the channel fullmoon earlier released a six-minute teaser for the anniversary special, showing the core cast members of the series getting together for two days as they were "transported" back to 1988.
The cast members, donning their vintage styles in the K-drama, were seen chatting and eating together like they always did as fictional neighbors.
They also played fun games and did 10 years' worth of catching up after filming the hit drama.
“It’s been 10 years, but it really only feels like two to three years have passed," Yoo Jae Myung said at the latter part of the clip.
“It’s really an unforgettable drama. That’s why we all gathered here like this without changing," Dong Il added.
Reply 1988 first premiered in 2015 and ran until 2016, spanning 20 episodes. Set in the 1980s when South Korea underwent major political and economic changes, it revolves around five childhood friends and their families in Seoul's Ssangmun-dong district as they navigate their difficult lives together.
During its run, the show received widespread critical and audience acclaim and was once recognized as the highest-rated drama in Korean cable television history at the time of airing.
