Look what you made him do: Man smashes Taylor Swift-signed guitar after buying it for P224,000 at an auction

Look what you made him do! A man from Ellis County in Texas bought an acoustic guitar signed by pop superstar Taylor Swift for $4,000 (P224,000) at an auction—only to smash it with a hammer.

A video shared by TikTok user JD Cobb showed an auctioneer's assistant, wearing a white long-sleeve polo shirt and a hat, holding the guitar with his left hand and a hammer with his right hand for a few seconds.

The man who won the guitar, wearing a blue polo shirt, then took the hammer and the instrument from the assistant before striking it several times.

The guitar, which has a design inspired by Swift's The Eras Tour, had visible dents and holes after the move.

The man also appeared to slam the guitar on the ground but the auctioneer stopped him. He then walked away with a visible smile on his face.

The video was shot in Ellis County Wild Game Dinner in the city of Waxahachie, according to the post's geotag.

"I see the guy grab a hammer off the stage," Cobb told local television channel WFAA. "When I started videoing it, I thought it was a joke."

There were speculations that the man smashed the Swift guitar after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential bid in the United States elections in November.

But Craig Meier, a spokesperson for Ellis County Wild Game Dinner, said there was no malice behind it.

“It has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious," Meier told WFAA.

Meier, however, noted the man was "just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics."

In any case, the $4,000 the man had paid for the guitar would go to charity, particularly the Future Farmers of America.

According to the organization's website, the annual Ellis County Wild Game Dinner is a “non-profit organization that raises money to benefit youth agricultural education."

"The important thing is that 100% of the money raised goes directly to local youth and agricultural education programs," Meier said. "At the end of the day, the kids win and will benefit from this.”

Swift has yet to react to the viral video as of writing.
