Raymond Gutierrez on love life: 'I have nothing to hide anymore'
When Raymond Gutierrez first introduced his boyfriend to the world during Pride Month, he was showered by immense love and support from his fans and fellow celebrities alike.
After all, the television host succeeded in his coming out journey and finally found someone that he could be happy with.
When asked why he was so open with his love life now for the first time in an interview with Toni Gonzaga on her YouTube channel posted on Sunday, July 24, he answered that it was because he had no secrets in his closet anymore.
"I have nothing to hide anymore. I'm at a place in my life where I'm very content and I'm very happy and I don't owe anyone any explanation. I'm just happy to share my love with the world," Gutierrez said.
To recall, Gutierrez posted lovey-dovey snaps introducing his boyfriend, Robert William on Instagram. The two could be seen holding hands while walking on the beach and sharing kisses with each other in the social media posts.
The television personality shared that he met William at a restaurant in Los Angeles, USA through common friends.
"We had a friend who was visiting from Miami and that friend organized the dinner. It wasn't like they were trying to set us up or anything like that, but siya yung katabi ko doon sa dinner. Nagclick lang kami, and we were the only two gay guys in the dinner," Gutierrez said.
For him, an attractive person is someone with a sense of humor.
"I think [an attractive trait for me is] wit. A sense of humor and the banter, the back and forth. I like a good conversation, and you have to be smart, but also funny," he said.
Meanwhile, the biggest turn off would be someone who doesn't give importance to personal hygiene, "I'm very much into that, like I really take care of myself so I really regard that high on my list."
Prior to officially coming out as gay in 2021 in an exclusive interview with Mega Magazine, Gutierrez faced problems as a result of supressing his sexuality such as going through depression and living an unhealthy lifestyle. After some reflection, however, he decided it was time to change himself.
"I just didn't want to live another year being unhappy with myself. So you know what, if you're not going to do anything about it, nothing will change. You're gonna live another year of your life being unhappy, do you really want that? I just had to have an inner conversation with myself," Gutierrez said.
When he made progress with his weight loss journey, he felt even more determined.
"I felt like I was a new person. There was a new sense of freedom and I think that's when it started to hit me that I wanted to live a new life, and that's when I started accepting who I was," Gutierrez said.
"I started coming out to my friends, I started coming out to people close to me. And I think that's what really changed in terms of mentality, finding inner peace," he added.
