Alicia Silverstone reportedly to reprise role in 'Clueless' sequel series
As if we weren't buggin' enough, news just dropped that Alicia Silverstone is reprising her iconic role as Cher Horowitz!
Variety reported that Peacock is developing a sequel series, and Silverstone is on board to bring the stylish Cher back to life.
While details about what the sequel will entail have yet to be revealed, the creative minds behind some classic teen dramas are helming the show. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Gossip Girl and The OC are set to write the series alongside Jordan Weiss, the writer of Freakier Friday. The trio will also executive produce it under their Fake Empire banner.
Meanwhile, Silverstone herself will also serve as an executive producer, along with Amy Heckerling, the writer and director of the original Clueless film, and producer Robert Lawrence.
Variety said that this forthcoming series is different from the 2020 iteration that did not move forward into production. That previous project centered on the disappearance of Cher, with her close friend Dionne Davenport unraveling the mystery surrounding her absence.
The 1995 film, Clueless, upon which these series are based, drew inspiration from Jane Austen’s 1815 novel, Emma. Following the cinematic release, a television adaptation premiered in 1996 and continued for three seasons. In that series, the role of Cher was portrayed by Rachel Blanchard.
Silverstone last reprised her role as Cher in the 2023 Super Bowl ad for Rakuten.
