'Godzilla vs. Kong' star Kaylee Hottle's official cause of death revealed

The official cause of death of actress Kaylee Hottle, who died earlier this week at 18 years old, has been revealed.

According to a report by PEOPLE Magazine, the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that multiple blunt force injuries led to the death of the Godzilla star.

Police said on Tuesday, July 21, that Hottle died in a car crash in Maryland, United States. Per authorities, Hottle was in a 1995 Honda Accord with another passenger when the car being driven by a 19-year-old man veered off a two-lane road and crashed into a culvert.

"Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision," they said.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Hottle was later declared dead. The driver was left with non-life-threatening injuries. The other passenger Hottle was with, meanwhile, refused medical treatment. 

Hottle, who was Deaf, appeared in Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire as Jia. She also received a nomination at the Saturn Awards 2024 for Best Performance by a Younger Actor.

Hottle's father Joshua announced her passing on social media on the morning of July 21 in American Sign Language, saying he was about to go to Maryland to claim his daughter's body. “I am taking a flight that I never would like to take,” he wrote in the caption of his post.

In a social media post, Texas School for the Deaf—where Hottle studied—called her death a "tremendous loss."
