Love wins: Agatha Uvero reveals new romance with VAWC lawyer

Agatha Uvero revealed she's now in a relationship with a VAWC lawyer—more than a year after confirming her breakup with PBA player Paul Desiderio and accusing him of physical and emotional abuse.

The former UAAP courtside reporter opened up about her new romance on X late Thursday, Jan. 11. "A single mother from an abusive relationship meets a beautiful, funny, smart, and warm VAWC lawyer and the rest is history," she wrote as she uploaded a photo of her and her significant other, Alex Castro.

She also talked about the red string theory, which involves an invisible red thread that "connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance." According to a Chinese proverb, the thread "may stretch or tangle, but will never break."

"She was already protecting me way before we knew each other," Agatha wrote.

The love of her life provides legal services to women who experience violence of any form and has cases in line with VAWC. According to the Philippine Commission on Women, it refers to "any act or a series of acts committed by an intimate partner, with whom the woman had sexual/dating relationship, that result or are likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or economic abuse." These include threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty.

Agatha clarified in a tweet that her partner "only happens to be a VAWC lawyer" and is not part of her ongoing case.

The ex-courtside reporter confirmed her split with Paul in June 2022. The latter revealed they broke up a month prior.

A month later, she opened up about the alleged physical and emotional abuse she suffered from her ex-fiancé, claiming that she experienced strangulation, punching, biting, and kicking, among others. She also alleged that Paul physically abused her while she was two months pregnant with their baby.

Paul denied Agatha's allegations a day later and claimed he "has never hurt a woman."

"Her social media allegation is unfortunate and sad, and most of all, untrue. I had hoped that we will be civil with each other after our separation, for the sake of our son," he wrote.

Agatha and Paul were engaged in November 2019 and welcomed their first son, Andres, in April 2021.
