Cristy Fermin on Dominic Roque's cybel libel complaint: 'Karapatan naman nila ‘yan'
Showbiz reporter Cristy Fermin said celebrities have every right to sue her, in response to actor Dominic Roque filing a cyber libel case against her last May 31, the third time a celebrity took legal action against her this year.
Fermin told GMA News that she learned about Roque filing a complaint against her when the network reached out to her for comment.
“Karapatan naman nila ‘yan," she said. "Karapatan nila ‘yan basta tingnan na lang natin kung ano ang mangyayari kapagka nagsagutan na, di ba?”
She said she was waiting for the subpoena from Dominic's complaint to be delivered.
"‘Yung kay Bea nga, hindi pa kami nag-i-start, hindi pa namin nakukuha ‘yung subpoena," Fermin said of Bea Alonzo, Roque's ex-fiancée who had filed a cyber libel case against her and her colleague Ogie Diaz on May 2 due to "false, malicious, and damaging information" from their vlogs talking about the former couple.
On her Cristy Ferminute program, Fermin told Alonzo that she's a public figure and must expect that her personal life would be talked about.
"Kayo po ay mga isda sa loob ng aquarium," she said. Ang publiko po ay nakatanaw sa inyo. Bawat galaw niyo, bawat ikot niyo, marami pong nakatanaw, wala kayong maaaring ligtasan. Kaya public figures kayo, 'wag masyadong balat-sibuyas."
Roque's complaint stemmed from Fermin's February vlog, where she said that Alonzo's family was investigating his finances as he supposedly lives in a high-end condominium. She also claimed that the condo was owned by a male politician.
Megastar Sharon Cuneta and her husband, politician Kiko Pangilinan, also sued Fermin for "broadcasting baseless and malicious statements regarding their personal and family affairs."
Fermin previously said that Cuneta and her daughter KC Concepcion's on-and-off relationship was due to the latter misplacing a valuable possession by the Megastar. She also pointed out how Cuneta and Pangilinan didn't post any greetings for Concepcion during her birthday on April 7.
