When we think of celebrity weddings, extravagant affairs, star-studded guest lists, and luxurious details usually come to mind. But not every famous couple has chosen the same route.

For one, Bea Alonzo and Vincent Co tied the knot in a civil wedding early this week, officiated by Mayor Nancy Binay. The actress wore a tailored white blazer paired with a mini skirt, while the businessman donned a short-sleeved Barong Tagalog. In one of the photos, the newlyweds are seen holding a minimalist white cake with a text that reads "Just Married."

For some pairs, a civil wedding was the perfect way to begin married life. Others, meanwhile, decided to keep one of the best days of their lives private first before holding a bigger gathering at a later date.

Here are some Pinoy celebrity couples who have shown that saying "I do" doesn't always need a grand production.

Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo

Longtime reel-to-real couple Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado exchanged vows in a civil wedding in 2021, when COVID-19 restrictions were still in effect. Contrary to public expectations of a lavish ceremony, the two opted for a simple celebration in matching white suits. The pair welcomed their first baby the following year. They both have sons from previous relationships—Trillo shares Calix with his ex Carlene Aguilar, while Mercado shares Alex Jazz with her ex Patrick Garcia.

Zanjoe Marudo and Ria Atayde

In 2024, Zanjoe Marudo and Ria Atayde surprised fans when they shared that they tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Quezon City, officiated by Mayor Joy Belmonte. The March 23 wedding coincided with Atayde's birthday and was attended only by their family members and close friends, including Daniel Padilla and Joshua Garcia. The couple welcomed their first child in September that year.

Angel Locsin and Neil Arce

Angel Locsin and Neil Arce had a simple civil ceremony in 2021, officiated by then-Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano. They initially planned on getting married in November 2020, over a year after their engagement in June 2019, but they had to move it to a later date due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Maja Salvador and Rambo Nunez

Months before their widely publicized wedding in Bali in July 2023, Maja Salvador and Rambo Nuñez quietly tied the knot in a civil ceremony on Valentine's Day of the same year. The two shared photos from the intimate occasion in separate anniversary posts on Instagram. They welcomed their first baby, Maria, the following year.

Mark Herras and Nicole Donesa

Mark Herras and Nicole Donesa exchanged vows in a civil ceremony in Q.C. on Sept. 8, 2021, also officiated by Belmonte. At the time, the couple said they were hoping to hold a bigger church wedding celebration in the future. They share two kids together.

Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero

Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero got married in June 2022 after being in a relationship for almost two decades. It was presided over by Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita Abalos. "It's official," Aubrey wrote in an Instagram post. "After 18 years of being together, it only [took] 30 minutes to seal it. We did it."
