Rapper Bad Bunny not sorry for throwing fan's phone into water for 'lack of respect'

Bad Bunny is taking no nonsense when it comes to his boundaries.

The Puerto Rican rapper and singer have been making the rounds on Twitter after he was captured throwing a female fan's phone into water as she tried to snap a selfie with him.

In the video posted on Twitter on Jan. 2, the fan is seen walking alongside Bad Bunny in the Dominican Republic, with her hand stretched out to take a selfie with her cellular device.

As the fan smiles for the camera, the 28-year-old singer snatches the phone from her and flings it into nearby water. Onlookers are also heard gasping in shock.

The video has so far earned 3.1 million views, with the songwriter airing his side on Twitter after it went viral. In his tweet, which was published in Spanish, the singer described the fan's action as a form of "lack of respect" and said that it should be returned in the same manner.

“The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect. Those who come to put a f–king phone in my face I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect, and I will treat it likewise," Bad Bunny tweeted.

Twitter users who have seen the video are divided on the issue, with one user pointing out that the fan had no right to "invade" the artist's privacy without his consent.

"If the lady hadn't invaded his space, would he have lost his phone? We have to be consistent, nothing gives the young woman the right to invade and take a photo or video without the consent of the artist," the comment read.

Another user put the blame on the fan for looking up to the singer like a supreme being. The user wrote, "That happens to those who believe that he is a God. He sweats, defecates and pisses like any mortal. He gets tired and bored, but there are those who would give their lives to be touched by this guy... for a photo with him. But that's life.."

Some users, on the other hand, deemed the rapper's move as "nonsense" and impolite, noting that the fan might have bought her device for a hefty price.

"If I would have been the chick, I slap him. He deserves his space but the fact does not allow him to do that nonsense either," a user said.

Another one commented, "I think that if he wasn't in the mood to take a picture, there were many other ways to make that clear other than throwing her cellphone away. For him, a cell phone doesn't cost anything. Now for an ordinary one, it's expensive!"

Meanwhile, there were those who stressed that the singer was just being human but because he is a public figure, he should've been more cautious with his actions.

"You also have to see things as they are, we are human beings and we get tired. Obviously, his attitude was not correct, but sometimes we get fed up. The problem is that it comes with fame," one user said.

"I think he should have handled the situation differently, he can be very stressed and everything, but being a public figure, he must know how to handle these things," another user added.

Last year, Bad Bunny was named the most streamed artist worldwide by Spotify for the third time in a row. His songs, including Me Porto Bonito and Moscow Mule, have earned a total of 18.5 billion streams in 2022.
