'Squid Game' stars play tumbang preso for the first time: 'This is harder than it looks!'

The stars of the hit Korean series Squid Game tried their hand at some fun children's games from around the world, including the classic Filipino game 'tumbang preso.'

As seen in a promotional video posted by Netflix Philippines, lead star Lee Jung Jae and new cast member Jo Yu Ri played the childhood Pinoy game that involves players attempting to knock down a can using slippers.

"Tumbang preso, it's a game from the Philippines," Jung Jae said as Yu Ri added, "Are you watching, Filipino fans?"

Jung Jae then proceeded to play the game, calling it "pretty simple," but it appeared that he spoke too soon as he had missed his first shot. This earned him an "X" sign from one of the masked men watching on the sidelines, similar to a scene in the series.

The same went for Yu Ri, who gasped in shock when she threw the slipper a little too far.

Jung Jae failed once more in his second shot, where he finally admitted, "This is hard. Given the slipper’s lightweight, there’s something scientific about its curve that makes it air resistant."

His co-star echoed his sentiments, describing the game as "harder than it looks." However, she eventually succeeded in hitting the can in her third attempt.

Apart from tumbang preso, they also played games from countries such as Sweden, Thailand, Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, the US, Malaysia, and Poland with their co-stars Wi Ha Joon, Yang Dong Geun, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, and Park Sung Hoon.

Squid Game Season 2 premiered on December 26th and rapidly ascended to the top of Netflix's biggest television debut

Variety reported that this season had 68 million views during its premiere week, beating Wednesday's 50.1 million views record in 2022.

The season also placed 7th on Netflix's list of most popular non-English television titles ever. The list is based on the titles' first 91 days of viewership.

Squid Game follows the story of 456 individuals buried in financial debt, playing a series of thrilling, deadly games. Only one winner would bring home the jackpot prize of 45.6 billion Korean won (P2 billion).

The second season saw Jung Hae's character Seong Gi-hun or Player 456 participating in the deadly games again in a bid to save other players from harm.

The third and final season is set to be released sometime in 2025.
