Heart Evangelista shares parents taught her discipline growing up despite privilege
Global fashion icon Heart Evangelista opened up about how she was still disciplined while she was growing up despite her affluent background.
In the latest episode of Heart World on Saturday, the 39-year-old socialite shared that while she was born with a silver spoon, her parents Rey and Cecilia Ongpauco taught her to work for what she has now.
"Don't get me wrong, ina-acknowledge ko talaga 'yung idea na pinanganak akong privileged. Pero siyempre dinidisiplina din kami," she shared.
"Spoiled kami in a sense na lahat binibigay sa amin pero talagang sobrang thankful ako na 'yung tatay ko magaling din siyang mag-disiplina," Heart added, highlighting that understanding her status shaped her approach to life, encouraging her to pursue her passions with a strong work ethic.
For Heart, discipline is about more than just personal success; it's a way to honor the opportunities she has received.
"Kailangan maging thankful ka kung anong mayroon ka. Kailangan hardworking ka. Iyon ang dala-dala ko, na kung may gusto ka, kailangang pagtrabahuan mo 'yon."
"Kailangan 'yung talagang alam mo na deserve mo bago mo siya makuha," she continued.
Heart also openly discussed her experiences with imposter syndrome. Despite her career success, she has admitted to moments of self-doubt and insecurity.
She added, "But as time goes by, I give myself a tap on the back na sinasabi ko sa 'yo na you deserve it because hindi mo lang ito pinaghirapan, halos makipaglaban ka para dito."
Heart comes from a renowned family. Her father Rey is a businessman while Cecilia is a former actress and restauranteur.
On October 26, GMA Network released the first episode of Heart World, the actress's new show, which showcases an exclusive look into her life beyond the glitz and glam.
The show can be watched via GMA Network and Kapuso stream every Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
