JLo’s mom ‘prayed for 20 years’ for her daughter to rekindle romance with Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s rekindled romance was a wish come true for her mother, who prayed for it “for 20 years.” 

The singer’s mom made the revelation on TV on Wednesday, May 3. “I knew that you would always get back together because I prayed for 20 years,” she told JLo during their recent guest appearance on NBC’s TODAY show. 

JLo jokingly rolled her eyes and asked host Hoda Kotb to carry on with the show. “Let’s keep going,” she joked. 

During the interview, the singer talked about her upcoming album This is Me… Now, which "captures the moment in time" when she and Ben “first got together.”

“I went on an incredible journey through my life for the past 20 years, and I think I’ve grown a lot. The album is really about capturing those moments in time—falling in love and having that moment, then 20 years later trying to capture what this moment was, which was a very different thing," she said.

JLo shared that aside from her mom, her children Max and Emme also love and appreciate her husband as he has been a “wonderful, wonderful father and father figure to them.”

“He has his own three beautiful children and then there’s us and he’s fantastic. He really steps up to the challenge of what that is and what that means and they love him. They love him. They appreciate him and so do I,” she added.

JLo and Ben started their romance way back in 2002, but called off their engagement two years later and started their own families with other partners. 

The pair reunited in 2021—two decades after their split—and tied the knot twice: an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas and then a formal affair in Georgia in 2022.
