Maxie Andreison apologizes for resurfaced video of her slapping, kicking fan
Drag Race Philippines Season 3 winner Maxie Andreison apologized for a past incident where she was seen slapping and kicking an individual after a video of the confrontation began recirculating on social media.
In a viral clip of the incident, which Andreison said took place three years ago, the drag performer can be seen in her wig and drag makeup standing by a parked van on the side of the road, in the middle of an apparent discussion with a companion and another individual, whose back is to the camera.
After exchanging a few words, Andreison can be seen slapping the individual and kicking her in the face.
Various reports said the incident stemmed from an intoxicated fan pulling Andreison's wig after one of her bar performances, causing considerable physical pain. The drag queen and her team told the fan off before driving away, only to turn back after Andreison decided to confront the fan again.
She was approached by another fan who was supposedly about to apologize on behalf of the intoxicated individual. Andreison allegedly mistook the fan for the one who pulled her wig and proceeded to slap and kick her.
Andreison acknowledged her shortcomings and apologized in an Instagram Live, which was reposted by Drag Scene Philippines.
She began her statement by saying that she had apologized to the fan and that they had already moved on from it.
"Sana lang three years ago, mas na-handle ko 'yung sitwasyon nang mas matalino, mas kalmado. Sana mas napalawak ko pa 'yung utak ko," Andreison said.
"Hindi kasi tama talaga na manakit. Kahit saang aspeto, hindi talaga ako katanggol-tanggol that time," she added, saying she has people guiding her supposedly about how to behave properly in public.
"Ayoko nang maulit 'yon. Tina-try ko naman magbago," she continued. Andreison also said the incident has taught her a lot, and that she is still learning from it.
"Sana sa susunod na [Instagram] Live ko, hindi na 'ko nagso-sorry. Sana last na sorry ko na 'to sa inyo," she said.
According to Andreison, she knew the video of the incident would go viral and she had no defense for it.
"Hindi ako nandito para depesnahan 'yung sarili ko dahil mali talaga 'yun. Mali talaga ako at ayoko nang maulit 'yun. Ayoko na maging ganun ulit," she added. "Pasensya po at na-disappoint ko kayo."
Reactions to her apology were mixed. Some social media users didn't believe Andreison's sincerity, saying she was only apologizing because the video had resurfaced online. Others, meanwhile, stood up for Andreison. They pointed out that the incident happened three years ago, and that it should no longer be an issue today.
Andreison shot to fame after competing in the second season of the international drag singing competition Queen of the Universe and emerging as the overall winner of Drag Race Philippines Season 3. She is set to alternate with fellow drag artist Viñas Deluxe as Trisha Echevarria in the upcoming Die Beautiful: The Musical.
