'Don't be made to feel ashamed': Coleen Garcia celebrates World Breastfeeding Week
After previously opening up about breastfeeding, Coleen Garcia shares the ups and downs of nursing her son Amari as the world celebrates breastfeeding week.
"If it seems like I'm always nursing... it's because I am," the TV host wrote on Instagram, stressing how breastfeeding is already normal and natural.
Garcia posted photos of her nursing her son in different scenarios like on a photoshoot, at home, and while they're on vacation.
"Do what you feel is best for your family, and be proud as you do it. If you choose to breastfeed, know that there is a whole community that gets you. Also, we shouldn’t have to normalize something that already IS normal and natural," she said.
The 29-year-old actress also opened up about how breastfeeding isn't "glamourous" in her two years of experience.
"There have been (and still are) countless sleepless nights, frustration, sacrifices, discomfort, and a lack of time, energy, and capacity for anything else. During the times when Amari is non-stop nursing 'cause he’s sick or teething, sometimes, it’s almost like I feel every last drop draining out of me," Garcia said.
But seeing how it gives Amari comfort, she sees her sacrifices worth it. "It gives me so much peace and a sense of fulfillment to know that I’ve been doing what I can to keep Amari as healthy as possible, but our breastfeeding journey hasn’t only been about that," she continued.
Breastfeeding has also brought the first-time mom and her son closer. "I could never imagine what it would have been like if we hadn’t chosen this path, and I would choose it again and again!" she added.
Garcia welcomed Amari in 2020, two years after tying the knot with fellow TV host Billy Crawford.
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7.
