Coleen Garcia gets real about the hardships of breastfeeding: ‘There are days na gusto kong sumigaw in frustration’

Coleen Garcia recently opened up about the joys and hardships of motherhood. While it has been a "dream come true" for her, it's not all sunshine and rainbows as there are challenges that come with it, too. Breastfeeding, for one, could sometimes make her feel like her life is being "sucked out" of her.

In an interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila, the actress said that breastfeeding her one-year-old son Amari can sometimes feel “frustrating.”

“Para sa’kin, breastfeeding is really the most selfless thing I’ve ever had to do. It’s not just the act of lending your body for the entire two years pero hindi ako makaalis. I can’t go anywhere na kasi hanggang ngayon, gumigising pa rin siya sa gabi for milk. There are days na parang gusto ko na lang sumigaw in frustration and it’s very draining,” she said.

The celebrity mom also revealed that she felt like her life was being “sucked out” of her when she breastfed her baby for the first time. “When I gave birth and I first started breastfeeding, parang sobra akong nade-drain. I felt like the life was being sucked out of me.”

Garcia, who plans to breastfeed Amari until he turns three, revealed that normalizing breastfeeding on social media is her way of loving her own body.

“I really want to normalize breastfeeding because there are so many times in my career, where I had to show my body,” Garcia said. “This is just another phase in my life where I’m trying to embrace my body.”

While being a breastfeeding mom is tough, Garcia said having a family of her own feels like a “dream come true.” She also gushed about her husband, actor Billy Crawford, who gave her the “confidence I never had.”

“With Billy, he has always spoken life over me. What your partner says to you will really affect the way you think because you’re with that person all the time. Sometimes, there are people who make you feel insecure and it takes just one person to point that out. But with Billy, he’s never done that to me. He never said anything bad to me,” Garcia added.

Garcia and Crawford tied the knot in 2018 and welcomed Amari in 2020.
