Liam Payne puts South America tour on hold due to ‘bad kidney infection’

Liam Payne's South America tour has been called off as the British singer is facing a serious health battle.

The Strip That Down singer announced "with a heavy heart" on social media that he has been in the hospital because of a bad kidney infection. He said that he would have to reschedule his upcoming tour to rest and recover.

"Hey guys, this really is the last news I wanted to be telling you but, basically, I’ve been a little bit unwell recently and I ended up in the hospital with a bad kidney infection," Liam said in the video.

The singer added that he has started rehearsing but was advised by his doctors that "now’s really not the right time to be out on the road trying to recover from this."

"I have the best people around me at home trying to help me recover as we speak," he added.

The former One Direction member apologized to his fans who had been waiting for the tour and his performance.

The tour—which was supposed to take place across six dates in September in Peru, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico—will be rescheduled at a later date. Liam asked his fans to look for ways to refund their tickets.

"Looking forward to seeing you guys soon. Hopefully, we’ll put on a bigger and better show. Thank you, I’m sorry," he concluded.

Liam previously revealed in the book One Direction: Dare to Dream that he only had one working kidney since he was a baby. He said he was born prematurely and that he was sickly as a child.

“When I was born I was effectively dead. … The doctors couldn’t get any reaction from me so I had to be brought round and although it seemed like I was OK, there were underlying problems," he said in the book.

Doctors found out that only one of his two kidneys was working, but a year later, he said that it had healed.

Last month, Liam has been hinting at a comeback with new music and a possible album release in the coming months.

“I’ve been making an album for a change, which is quite fun,” he told iFL TV. “It’s been good, I’m excited to bring it out, and I definitely want to tour this time, which is unusual. Because I wasn’t sure I was going to tour for a long time. I was kind of over it a little bit, but I’m really excited to get back out on the road and go and see all the fans. It’s gonna be fun.”
