Selena Gomez lamented about how she won't be able to experience pregnancy due to complications in her health.

The actress got candid about a heartbreaking obstacle she is facing regarding motherhood in an interview with Vanity Fair, where she revealed that her health issues can put her life at risk if she decides to carry her own children.

"I haven’t ever said this but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while," Gomez said.

"It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. [But] I’m in a much better place with that," she continued.

Gomez found solace in the fact that she could still be a mother through alternative means.

"I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms," she highlighted.

"I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby," she added.

The 32-year-old celebrity has been vocal about her experience with lupus, an autoimmune disease, since she was diagnosed in 2014. She shared in her 2022 documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, that the illness causes her to "start crying because it just hurts, like, everything."

As a result, Gomez had to undergo a kidney transplant in 2017. Her best friend, Francia Raisa, was the one who willingly donated her kidney to the singer.

The Hollywood star is currently in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco. While Blanco previously shared how he wants to marry Gomez and start a family with her, the actress said that there's no pressure between them to take that next step.

"We always make sure we’re protecting what we have, but there’s no rules. I want him to always be himself. I always want to be myself," she said.

She further disclosed, "I’m not changing my name no matter what. I am Selena Gomez. That’s it."

Gomez is set to return for the upcoming Disney television series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which is a spin-off and sequel to 2007's Wizards of Waverly Place. Her other projects include musical crime film Emilia Pérez and cooking show Selena + Restaurant.
