Selena Gomez reflects on body image: 'I'm proud to be who I am'
Selena Gomez posted then-and-now photos of herself as she shared her realizations on the changes in her body.
On her Instagram stories on Tuesday, Jan. 23, the actress shared bikini snaps taken in different stages of her life. "Today, I realized I will never look like this again," she began.
"I'm not perfect but I am proud to be who I am. Sometimes, I forget it's okay to be me," she continued.
Following the body-shaming comments she received during her Golden Globes appearance in January 2023, Selena opened up about her fluctuating weight in a TikTok video a month later, saying that it's because of her lupus medication.
"When I'm taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. When I'm off of it, I tend to lose weight... I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they're going through, and no one knows the real story," she said.
"I just want people to know that you're beautiful, and you're wonderful. Yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like s---, but I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they're what helps me," she added.
She stressed that she's "not a model, never will be" as she slammed body shamers on social media.
"I just wanted to tell you I love you guys, and thanks for supporting me and understanding. And if not, go away, 'cause honestly, I don't believe in shaming people for [their bodies] or anything," she continued.
