Benedict Cua opens up about being a single dad: 'I need support system too'
Benedict Cua got real on his struggles with single parenthood, stressing the need for a support system.
In his recent vlog, the 31-year-old content creator opened up about his journey so far as a single dad for his son, Aleck, by answering questions sent by his followers.
When asked why he announced he's a single dad, Benedict explained that he wanted to be there for other single parents who need a support system.
"Aside from the fact that I wanted to reach people who have the same experience from me, single moms and dads, I admit I also wanted to reach them because I need a support system too,” he shared.
He added that while the journey is also rewarding, he stressed that he does not want to “romanticize,” it, opting to keep it real by also showing the struggles.
“Sa vlogs ko, it may seem as easy as it can be but it's not easy," he said.
"But I also don't want to stress out that fatherhood is not easy because it's a very rewarding experience. 'Di ko naman siyang sobrang iro-romanticize dahil there's also struggles behind it despite being rewarding," he explained.
He also noted the struggles of overcoming the stigma attached to being a single parent.
"I guess kahit kasi sobrang open minded ang mga tao ngayon, there are still instances when single parenthood is being frowned upon. Because paano mo kakayanin mag-isa ka? At some point, magkukulang at magkukulang ka,” he shared.
He added, “I think I'm here, not to show the perfection of being a single parent but to let you guys see that this moment of my life is navigable, [and] I want you guys to navigate with me.”
Being new to parenthood, Benedict stressed the importance of being surrounded by people who are “empowering,” and are reliable for helpful advice.
"For sure, there will be times na sobrang clueless ako sa ginagawa ko and I think it's very important to be surrounded by an audience that's very empowering,” he said, adding, “I want to share my learnings, But I also want to get help and advice.”
"I seldom see single fathers. It's something na hindi ko dapat ikahiya,” he concluded.
Benedict first revealed that he’s a single dad in May.
“I just wanna say, I've had the best two months of my life... I waited for so many years and finally, he's here. I want to immortalize every moment I have with him," the content creator previously said in his vlog.
“Ang promise ko lang is I will actively be present in every moment of your life. I will not only provide your physical needs but aim to nurture your emotional well-being as well," he added.
