Sulli's family asks clarification on explicit 'Real' scenes with Kim Soo Hyun

The family of the late Sulli is demanding an explanation from her Real co-star Kim Soo Hyun and director and Gold Medalist founder Lee Sa Rang about her explicit scenes in the movie.

According to a Soompi report, Sulli’s older brother released an official statement through Sports Kyunghyang on Friday, March 28, stressing three key points for clarification regarding the filming of Real

“Over the past six years, we have endured immense grief and sorrow, but we have also been deeply grateful for the support and kindness extended to us by many people,” he began in the statement.

“It is for this reason that we could not turn a blind eye to the tragic passing of Kim Sae Ron as if it were unrelated to us,” he continued, expressing their condolences to Sae Ron’s bereaved family.

Sulli’s brother recalled that during her funeral in 2019, their family learned “concerning information” about the filming of bed scenes of the movie, sharing that a body double was present on set, despite early claims that the body double “was ill and couldn’t attend.”

“As the person directly involved is no longer with us, confirming the truth is difficult. However, we still hope that Kim Soo Hyun and director Lee Sa Rang (real name Lee Ro Be) will clarify the following matters,” he added.

Sulli’s brother asked for Soo Hyun’s stance on the bed scene, which was said to originally not be as detailed in the script. He also asked why the body double, despite being present on set, was not used and that Sulli was persuaded and “pressured into filming the bedroom and nude scene herself.”

He also pointed out the contradictory statements about the body double, saying that while they initially said that the body double is indeed absent due to illness, testimonies from people at the funeral say otherwise.

“Beyond these [three matters,] we also heard various other accounts during the funeral. However, we are only asking these three questions based on facts,” he said. “We urge you to respond actively.”

For their part, Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, responded briefly to the statement, saying they are "currently in the process of verifying the facts."

Sulli and Soo Hyun starred in the action-thriller 2017 film Real. At the time, she faced online backlash due to her nude scene.

Two years later, Sulli was found dead in her home by her manager on the afternoon of October 2019. She was 25.

Following her death, the “Sulli Act” was soon launched to fight cybercrime, but received mixed reactions. Others mentioned that it’s “hard to enforce,” while some said it’s “unconstitutional.” As a result, interest in the bill dropped in 2020.

Sulli, whose real name is Choi Jin-ri, played roles in dramas To The Beautiful You and Hotel del Luna, among others. She hosted a talk show, The Night of Hate Comments
