Francia Raisa denies she was 'forced' to donate her kidney to Selena Gomez
Francia Raisa shut down rumors that she was "forced" and "pressured" to donate her kidney to her longtime friend Selena Gomez in 2017.
In the Aug. 1 episode of the Good Guys podcast, she stressed that she simply "felt" it in her heart to do so. "No one forced me to do anything."
"It came out of the genuine kindness of my heart, and I've been super blessed ever since," she continued.
This comes after social media users spread rumors that Francia was just "pressured" to save the life of her best friend, who needed to have a kidney transplant in September 2017 due to lupus-related organ damage.
Earlier this year, Selena said she’s “in debt” to Francia for the kidney donation.
"My best friend, her name is Francia. She said, 'No, I am absolutely getting tested,'" she recalled in Apple TV+'s documentary series Dear.... "And within three days, she went to get tested, and she was a match. It was one of those moments where I felt watched over. I know I was so so so lucky."
"I will never ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia. The idea of someone not even second-guessing to be a donor was unbelievably overwhelming,” she said.
The two seemed to have a falling out less than a year ago due to Selena’s comments in her November 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, where she talked about not being able to “fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities” and noted that her “only friend in the industry” is Taylor Swift.
Francia appeared to have taken issue with what the Only Murders in the Building star said and commented “interesting” on an Instagram post showing the exact quote. She deleted it later on.
Addressing the matter in the comment section of a TikTok video, which showed proof that Francia is no longer following the international star on Instagram, Selena wrote: “Sorry, I didn’t mention every person I know.”
Selena put an end to feud speculations in late July, when she greeted her a happy birthday on Instagram and called her a "special human being." She added, "No matter where life takes us, I love you.”
