PSY and BTS’ Suga channel their inner cowboys in new single and music video for ‘That That’
PSY and Min Yoongi, also known as BTS’ Suga, may just be the K-pop duo we never knew we needed.
PSY, the singer behind the hit songs Gangnam Style and Gentleman, has finally made an explosive return to the music scene with his ninth album PSY 9th, his first release after five years. The album and music video of the title track That That, featuring Suga of BTS, was released on Friday, April 29.
The eccentric music video showed PSY and Suga channeling their inner cowboys in a location inspired by the Wild West. The duo was initially arguing until they finally made up as friends in the end.
“Long time no see, huh? / We’re back to laughing, crying, living, loving, loco / Pandemic’s over / The vibes are coming / Everybody say, been aching all over for / Gotta scratch the itch for them crowded streets / Gotta love this hustle / North, south, east, west aye,” PSY rapped in That That’s verse.
That That is a song that talks about having fun in a world where the “pandemic’s over” without minding what the “haters say.”
Prior to the album’s release, PSY revealed that the title track was produced by Suga himself.
“When meeting younger artists, I don’t want to be someone who’s hard to approach. For me, Suga wasn’t just my junior in the business, but also he truly feels like a friend,” PSY said in an interview uploaded on BTS’ YouTube channel.
Suga, on the other hand, admitted that he was initially “nervous” about collaborating with a veteran artist like PSY. “He’s many years my senior and someone so who’s so well-respected in the business.”
Despite PSY and Suga’s 16-year age gap, the BTS member said working with the soloist felt like “working with a childhood friend” that made the “songwriting process that much more fun.”
PSY’s 9th also contains the following tracks, namely, 9Intro, Celeb, You Move Me feat. Sung Si-kyung, Sleepless feat. Heize, Ganji feat. Jessi, Now feat. Hwasa, Happier feat. Crush, Hello Monday, Everyday, ForEVER feat. Tablo, and Dear Me.
Aside from his successful solo career, PSY founded his own entertainment label P Nation in 2019. The music label is home to several Korean music acts including Jessi, Crush, Hyuna, and Dawn.
