Edgar Allan Guzman and Shaira Diaz, who recently announced their engagement, talked openly about the realities of practicing sexual abstinence in their 11-year relationship.

The pair were asked in an interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Feb. 19 about how easy or difficult it was to be celibate.

"First two years namin, tito Boy, umiiyak ako sa kanya," Edgar said. "Kasi ang hirap. To be honest, ang hirap. Sobrang... Noong time na iyon parang hindi ko na kaya. Kasi siyempre, 'di ba?"

"Kaya sabi ko talaga sa kanya, 'Baba, hindi ko na kaya.' Pero noong may sinabi siya sa'kin na, 'Kung mahal mo talaga ako, hihintayin mo 'ko.'

The 35-year-old actor continued to say that he chose to remain abstinent because of Shaira.

"Sabi ko nga noong nag-announce kami sa engagement namin na I respect Shaira a lot," he said.

For her part, Shaira shared that she chooses to be celibate because of a promise she made to her parents.

"Ino-honor ko po 'yung family ko, especially my mom and dad. 'Yan po ang promise ko sa kanila talaga na kahit iwan niyo ako saan, eto, buong-buo pa rin ako. At saka sabi nila na eto yung magiging best gift mo sa magiging asawa mo," the 28-year-old actress said.

Edgar and Shaira announced on Feb. 16 that they've been engaged since December 2021. The couple revealed the reason why they kept it private for two years in an episode of Unang Hirit.

"I respect Shaira a lot so ni-respect ko lang yung time niya. I know na kapag nag-propose ako, baka mag-no ito sa akin, that’s the truth. Pero naniniwala ako sa pagmamahal niya and alam niya na kapag nag-propose ako sa kanya, pag nag-yes siya, I’m willing to wait," Edgar said.

"Maghihintay ako sa kanya. Sa right time niya, sa gusto niyang goal namin na pupuntahan. I’ll wait for her," he added.

Meanwhile, Shaira explained that she only felt ready to tell the world the exciting news now.

"Ngayon ko lang na-feel talaga na reding-ready na ako, ready na akong gumawa ng pamilya in the future. Makasama siya habambuhay. So, sobrang ready na ako, gusto ko nang ipagsigawan sa mundo kung gaano kami nagmamahalan, kung gaano ko siya kamahal," she said.

The pair first met in 2012 and began dating a year later on Feb. 17.

After their interview with Boy Abunda, the couple asked the TV host to be a godfather at their wedding.
